Thomas Deacon Academy is the largest Academy in England. It opened in 2007 in a £51m purpose-built building. Thomas Deacon Academy is an all-abilities school of 2,200 students and 352 staff, specialising in Science and Mathematics. In September 2014 we opened our Junior College welcoming three Year 3 classes which will grow year on year until the school has a total of 12 classes by the start of the 2017/18 academic year.

Living in Peterborough offers the perfect mix of heritage, countryside walks, shopping, entertainment and dining out. As you enter the City from Peterborough train station you are welcomed with views of St Johns the Baptist Church, the Guildhall and one of the most outstanding attractions in Peterborough, the impressive Norman Cathedral, which will celebrate 900yrs since construction in 2018. Peterborough Cathedral is situated in beautiful grounds right in the heart of the City. The history of Peterborough can be explored in the nearby Museum and Art Gallery and at Flag Fen, just outside of the City Centre.

A short walk from the Cathedral is the vibrant regional shopping centre, Queensgate, which hosts a variety of high street retailers to meet the demands of the avid shopper and for a more traditional shopping experience Peterborough City Market can be found a short walk from Queensgate. Across the City there are several retail parks offering further shopping opportunities, including the Brotherhood Retail Park, Serpentine Green and Peterborough Garden Park.

When the daylight fades, experience Peterborough’s night life. There are two City Centre theatres, with a further theatre outside of the City and Peterborough Arena is situated on the outskirts of the City providing residents and visitors with the opprtunity to enjoy a range of entertainment from drama and ballet to concerts. If you are looking to dine out, Peterborough offers a diverse selection of restaurants serving cuisine from every culture and to end your evening in the City you can visit a range of cocktail bars and night clubs that are open until the early hours.

After a busy week, enjoy the extensive range of recreational activities on offer in Peterborough. Visit Ferry Meadows Country Park with the children where you can explore the woodlands and lakeside walks and participate in a variety of watersports or absorb the history of John Clare country at Burghley House, John Clare Cottage and Sacrewell Farm and Country Centre, with its historic watermill. For the sports fan, Peterborough offers something for everyone from league one football at Peterborough United to speedway, ice hockey and greyhounds.

The Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT) is working towards making Peterborough the UK’s Environment Capital and, in support of this aim, hosts an annual event known as the Green Festival providing a fortnight of activities celebrating the city of Peterborough and the work PECT is doing to help establish Peterborough as a sustainable city.

Peterborough is well connected by road with direct links to the A1 for travelling North to South and the A47 for travelling East to West. Rail travel is equally as convenient with the East Coast Line direct to London in 50 mins and a direct connection to Stansted Airport in 80 mins. Direct rail travel can be made from Peterborough to York, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Liverpool Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham Leicester, Derby, Lincoln, Norwich, Ipswich and Cambridge. Peterborough also benefits from excellent coach travel as a Hub for National Express from the Queensgate Bus Station. Peterborough Travel Choice Centre is open Mon-Fri 9.30am-5pm and Sat 9.30am-2.30pm where you can access bus travel advice and National Express tickets.

Peterborough Cathedral

    Peterborough Cathedral is an inspiring place set in beautifual grounds within the city centre. St John the Baptist Church

    Peterborough Parish Church (named after St John the Baptist) is the historic Parish Church for Peterborough. The church is situated in a prominent position in the heart of Peterborough’s Cathedral Square and is an iconic feature of the city centre. Peterborough Museum

    Located in one of the city’s most historic buildings, Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery has a wealth of stories to fascinate and enthrall the whole family. Flag Fen

    Travel back 3,500 years to discover what life was like for our prehistoric ancestors at the finest Bronze Age archaeological site in Northern Europe. City Centre

    Queensgate is an undercover, self contained shopping centre that is conveniently located in the city centre. With over 90 shops, 15 cafes and restaurants and parking for over 2000 visitors the shopping centre has everything you could need under one roof. Outside of Queensgate, leading off from Cathedral Square there is a large variety of high street stores and a choice of supermarkets, such as Tesco, Asda and Waitrose.

Retail Parks

    There are several shopping centres and retail parks around the city including, Maskew Avenue and Brotherhood Retail Park just outside the city centre and Serpentine Green to the South, Bretton Centre to the North and Peterborough Garden Park to the West.
